A home in Trusan

It's my 3rd week in this school. Here's a few pictures to share.

Our quarters..m staying with Roza and her cousin, Flora.

This is how my room looks like before 'make over'

Forget about other things, I clean the room and set up the bed 1st. I wana feel at home..huhuhu..
I was more than excited to see the bed is done and was about to land my buttock on it. My butt just landed lightly on it when the whole things collapes! Ok...not the whole bed tho but the wooden part that support the mattress..:(..I almost cry...I was exhausted after students' registration and was really longing to rest. So end up...

I chose to sleep on the floor without the bed. I'm just too tired to look for a new bed. The bed parts are available somewhere under one of the quarters here but you have to fix the bed on ur own..too tired for that and I feel more secure sleep on the floor than to sleep on a bed that are can collapse anytime when u are having ur sweetdream on the bed.

Empty 'setty' (I don't know what to call this 'sofa' set)

Our bathroom. It's not a 5 stars bathroom but I am just more than glad as long as the water is flowing.

Toilet with water pipe disconnected from the main pipe...how to flush?? Use pail..;)

mm...the toilet ceiling.

hole here and there..teachers are too stressed by workload??

Kitchen

Water tanks where the female students from the hostel take their bath..told u, I'm just glad that the water is flowing in my bathroom...Trusan residents know well that water is a problem here..

Walk path where I have my 5 minutes exercise while going to work..
climbing the hills eh...
Just back from work, walking down this slippery walk path.
My mom send my stuff and put my name as Cikgu Caroline. It's weird having my mom name me as 'Cikgu'...hahahaa...

1st week in Lawas

30/12/2009
Fly from Kuching at 7am, arrive in Miri 8am. Next flight, Miri-Lawas at 11.25am so I have plenty of time to waste in the airport but are too alang2 to go out to town. So I just sit at one of the cafe (I don't remember the name) while enjoying the fast speed internet line.

Time to depart, Twin Otter?? Huhuhu...It's like sitting in a bus, but much more mini. This should be name as the Air Bus instead of the big plane...hahahaha...

I'm lucky that my friend, Roza, who are posted to the same school as me can fetch me from the airport. Arrive around 1pm, lunch, check in to Hotel Perdana, then left for school. Report duty, checked out the quarters, I almost fainted. The 1st quarters is like a drug addicts house, the second seem presentable and we are lucky that the teachers who are suppose to be staying there move to the flat so they have clean the house and we have less cleaning work to do..phew..

Evening, went back to hotel, rest. The bed is soooooo comfortable with air-con, TV and plenty of water supply, I just don't feel like going back to the school. Immediately, I'm homesick. I wana cry, serious...I'm ashamed to say that but I'm really2 tired because just coming back from sabah, packing my stuff, next day fly again. My heart still left at home.

31/12/2009
Staff meeting in school, to be exact, the school hall aka dining hall, with only one functioning fan, I feel like fainted. No air..huhuhu...

Finish around noon, went down to Lawas town to settle the electricity stuff, then drive to Limbang to Roza's house. The journey was tiring especially for me because I do not know where exactly is her house and I'm like, waited and waited, and finally we are there. Bath, went to church, went to her granny's house for family gathering, I'm obviously is not one of the family members, but of cos I'm welcome to join them. ;)

So there goes my new year eve celebration.

1/1/10
Went to Limbang town to buy our things and Roza received a shocking news from her cousin, one of her cousin, staying in Miri, died in car crash last night. So, the whole relatives, those who are related, all are going to Miri, by land aka driving. Total 8 cars convoy going to Miri with me in one of them since the Roza's family members are all going.

Arrived in Miri, seeing late Ruth Ramai's motionless body, without a scratch, is really heart breaking. Even tho I never met her, but seeing the relatives and friends crying over her sudden death is really sad. Her fiance was still in hospital that time not knowing that Ruth is dead. It was sad. It is even sad to hear friends and family talking about her, showing that she is a very lovable person. Everyone really feel the loss especially her 3 younger brothers. Being the eldest, she was the mother to them. Her younger brother, around primary school age, is crying, and it is really heart breaking seeing a little boy crying over the death of his beloved sister. The news on the accident was published in newspaper on 2jan and 3jan, u can see the pictures of the firemen taking her body out from the wrecked car in Sin Chiew dated 3Jan. Yesterday (10/1/10), her fiance finally awake and he cried so badly after knowing the death of Ruth. Anyway, she's only 26 years old.

We stayed at Roza's uncle's house that night and the uncle happen to know my late father, studying in the same school. Roza's mom knew my late father too. I do expect this to happen cos my late father's hometown is Limbang and I'm pretty sure I've met some of my relative except that I do not know them, so do them.

2/1/10
Went back to Limbang. Half way, was stopped by police traffic for not wearing seat belt. We thought of going back to Lawas that same day but we arrived in Limbang quite late so be going back to school the next day.

3/1/10
I was soooooooo late for student's registration. The moment I step into the office, PKHEM (Penolong Kana Hal Ehwal Murid) and principal came into the staff room and order us to quickly go to our class for we are 45minutes late. huhuhuh....

The registration process was tiring because not all parents prepared the required documents.

Finish everything around 3pm, left the staff's room around 4pm. No matter how tired we are, we have to proceed with cleaning the house or else, we will be sleeping in a dusty room.

4/1/10
1st day of work. No time to prepare for the lesson, I am so confuse, so not sure of what to do. Being new, everything seem to be too overburden. Most of the students are Lun Bawang. The advantage of teaching in rural school is that the students can still be controlled. But the con is, most of the teachers are new, 90% of us, most of them the most is been teaching in the school for 1 year plus. They are all still young. So even if u are new, u will have to hold a certain position and workload because they do not have enough teachers. So me, class teacher for 1C, AJK Kebajikan Staff, AJK Kecerian, Penasihat Kadet Bomba, etc..Teaching math(Form 1), Moral (Form 2), Geography (Form 3) and History (Form 4). My weakest subject, Geo and History. I feel like I'm a student too, I have to study the books from Form 1 until Form 3 (for Geo) and Form 4 (for History).

As days pass by, I started to slowly adapt to this new environment.

I don't even have time to take photos of this place! Huhuhu...
